After watching Alice Through the Looking Glass, we realized it had been a while since we saw the precursor – Alice In Wonderland.
Soooo … it felt opportune to rectify it and it was promptly ordered up on Amazon Prime.
The movie again featured Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter.
It’s a wonderful rendition of Lewis Carroll’s 1865 classic. Starting out with Alice on her way to a country gathering and being admonished for being less than lady like. Alice is aghast to learn that the boorish Hamish wants her hand in marriage. She exits stage left for a minute to collect her thoughts and then takes off after the white rabbit. She finds a hole by a tree and, when she looks into it, falls into another dimension. Wonderland.
Mia is wonderful in the role of Alice as she encounters the wacky and unpredictable events of this strange space, believing as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast.
Johnny Depp is outstanding as the Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter rocked as the Queen of Hearts.
The movie was constantly entertaining and engaging all the way through and a curiouser & curioser exploration of what is real and what is fantasy.
I never did find out why a raven is like a writing desk
