I’ve loved seeing the memes with quote from the book The Afterlife of Billy Fingers by Annie Kagan. It’s crossed my mind to acquire the book and read the whole thing albeit I didn’t act on it. Until my last sojourn to Barnes and Noble this last Sunday.
Today, I sat down with the book and cracked it open to read the Introduction and the first chapter. The story got straight into Annie’s relationship with her bad boy brother and their tumultuous relationship. She was stunned when she got the news that he had been killed in a car accident in Miami.
After a few weeks of grieving, she was in bed one morning, close to waking when she heard a voice calling her name and stating that it was him – Billy. She was directed to get a notebook he had given her and, as he spoke to her, she recorded his words. He detailed the process of leaving this realm and transitioning over and shared several details of where he was, how he felt and what he was conscious of. Also, offering some insights into making the most of the life experience while we have it.
After the initial contemplation of whether she was dreaming or imagining, Annie concluded that it had actually happened and was determined to invite him back by keeping the notebook and pen close to her.
That wraps up the first chapter and I’m excited now to read more and see what other insights into both living and dying are offered. Primarily to ensure I fully appreciate & experience this part of my journey to the absolute maximum.
