Ascent 106 – Constant Firsts a la Heraclitus

Once you have embarked on the path of awakening, you have initiated a process where you can be different each and every day. The world isn’t changing – you are. Your attitudes, perception, paradigms, energy – every facet of your being is in flux. Which means that each moment, each day has to be a brand new experience.

I love Heraclitus’ timeless quote: No man steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man. (Or woman, of course).

This quote is the epitome of the daily first. They are happening whether you are aware or not. The law of entropy dictates that everything around you is shifting. The cells of your body are changing rapidly in each moment. Therefore, there isn’t really any such thing as ‘same old’.

And that’s a beautiful thing. I love showing up looking at each day as a blank canvas, not knowing what will get painted upon it, yet excited to find out. As each moment sets the stage for the next, I choose to make each the best I possibly can to ensure the chain reaction continues to be enlightening.

And paradoxically, within this constant change exists a changeless core – that space of our pure essence and awareness that allows us to traverse our transformation and life’s tribulations with ease and grace.

I believe one of my strengths is my ability to embrace change and I’m excited to step into that next river as both a new man and more of who I truly am.
