Ascent 50 – Centenarian Goofiness

Today’s first was a movie find – The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out A Window And Disappeared. I’m loving Amazon Prime and the huge variety of movie content – much of which is free to view. While perusing the comedy section, I came across a rather odd sounding movie. It had 5 stars and was listed as the highest grossing Swedish movie of all time.

The movie tells the story of 100-year old Allan Karlsson who decided he didn’t want to be in a nursing home, stepped out the window and disappeared. He ambles from situation to situation, taking everything in his stride with complete ambivalence to everything going on around him.

The events are constantly hilarious. The story is peppered with the story of his life, from birth to age 100, his discovery of his passion for blowing things up and encounters with every significant regime and world leader in recent history. He seems to have a charmed life, continuing to meander through close encounters and dangerous situations without seeming to be bothered in the slightest.

I don’t like to be a movie spoiler and don’t want to give away too much of the plot. If you’re in the mood for something completely unique and goofy, check this out. I’ll be watching this one again.
